Wow. Today,
June 25th, 2009, I happened to walk out and CNN was on and I saw
that Farah Fawcett had passed on after a fight with anal cancer.
Then I come out a few hours later, about to go get some food,
and CNN said that Michael Jackson had died. I couldn't
believe it!
Michael Jackson was dead? It can't be
true. He was so young, so strange, such a pop icon that it
seemed he was immortal. He was only 50 years old. I
couldn't believe what I was seeing. His dancing and way of
singing was something never seen before, like when the Beatles
hit the scene. The Moonwalk, something I was told that he
couldn't do anymore earlier this year, was his signature move.
I found it ironic and almost kinda sad that he couldn't do his
own dance move anymore, and it was fun to gossip about with my
friends. I knew he was doing a world tour this year,
something his fans and more than a few of my friends said they
wanted to go see. The point is, even though he didn't tour
much and even after the problems with the charges the kids
filed, he never really left our minds, he was always up to
something we found fascinating. He was a great man.
I was very young at the height of his career, but I do remember
seeing Thriller for the first time. It blew me away, I had
never seen anything like it, nor had I ever seen a music video
that long. I never had MTV growing up, so when I went to
my friends house I watched as much as I could (along with late
night skinamax.) Every time I saw Michael Jackson or heard
about something new and crazy that happened with him, I would be
transported back to when I was 11 or 12 and saw Thriller for the
first time. He was an inspiration and a great talent, and
even though he became the butt of many jokes over the last few
years, such as: What did the lady say to Michael Jackson
at the beach? Excuse me, you're in my son. But, you
know, he just seemed like one of those people who would never
go, like he would be around forever, like Clint Eastwood.
My friend Vosa loved him, we watched all kinds of video footage
on YouTube last year of him, and he still could blow you away.
The dancing was amazing, the singing was amazing, the songs were
so catchy it would get stuck in your head, even decades after
they came out, and the videos were amazing. He was a great
great man who will be dearly missed. RIP Michael Jackson,
I hope you find happiness where ever you are now.
